reality virtualized

“By making the real world a playground for the virtual world, we can make the real world much more interesting.”
You may be able to view the real world through the lens of your camera phone, utilizing technology to virtually apply information on the screen onto whatever image you are actually looking at. Pop up displays can add labels to the picture of a block of buildings, telling you where atms are located, if jobs are available, names of restaurants with information. Virtual reality is in the palm of our hands now, applying information onto the real world instead of creating an entirely virtual reality. The real world is becoming virtual.

A mobile and wireless phone kiosk in Kamapala draws its power from a car battery (in the red box, photo below). Despite its bicyclesque design they were not particularly mobile - one or more tyres were often flat and they remained tethered in one place for the duration of the day.

Prayer Wheel Energy Generator

" Tibetan designer Taikkun Li is using tourists as an energy source for his Prayer Wheel Energy Generator, envisioned for Tibet. This is how it works - when tourists spin a multitude of prayer wheels, the positive energy can be harvested along Tibetan streets, turned into electricity, and used to provide evening lighting along those streets and inside the adjacent homes.
The prayer wheel generator is built on a base of used bicycle parts and a discarded surplus fan motor, making it ideal for use in the developing world. Hence the combination of three elements - low-cost efficiency, LED lighting and the efficiency of a bicycle, the Prayer Wheel Generator is a perfect alternative for countries that is so beautiful to succumb to the global warming conditions."

"Capella, as Truong Minh Nhat calls his creation, is an electric bike made with light composites that the Ho Chi Minh City University of Architecture student says can be folded and put into a backpack."

"How often do you miss the train to your office locale in finding a parking space for your vehicle on the railway station? Addressing the issue, the designer of the sleek Feltphone (covered on the blog couple of days back), Matthias Pugin, has designed a vehicle that takes personal commutation straight to the rail track. Pretty cool! Dubbed “Paracite,” the single seater is a 3-wheeled vehicle that moves the commuters to their destination with the comfort of a personal luxury vehicle. However, considering the fact that usually there is a 5 miles free space between two trains on an average rail track, fitting the Paracite on the busy tracks will definitely be a headache for the rail track controllers." courtesy of http://www.thedesignblog.org/page/4/

Mapping Memory

Great site! You can stroll through the brain with making memories, storing memories, and forgetting.

EP has two types of amnesia—anterograde, which means he can't form new memories, and retrograde, which means he can't remember old memories either, at least not since 1960...
